  • In an identity management landscape, approvers currently are required to log into the Saviynt web portal for managing the enterprise identity life cycle functions. They receive email notifications and alerts. Sometimes these might be overlooked or get lost among other emails leading to missed approvals or delays in request(s) processing and resulting in lost or timely provisioning of access thereby impacting business
  • Navigating to different applications or checking multiple emails for pending requests can be time-consuming for approvers and often lead to inefficient handling of requests.
  • Without real-time updates and notifications, approvers may not be aware of urgent requests or the status of pending approvals, potentially leading to compliance issues and business disruption
  • Approvers often find it challenging to manage delegation requests or view upcoming certifications without a centralized view, leading to missed deadlines or unmanaged access changes

The Solution

ProBot integrates seamlessly with Saviynt’s REST APIs to address these challenges by enhancing the Identity governance and administrative processes and providing functionalities for access request approvals, request history tracking, real-time notifications for approvers, delegation management and certification information retrieval from within the Slack platform without having to toggle between applications.

Solution Overview

The Slack ProBot Home Tab presents a dashboard view of options available directly within Slack that eliminates toggling between applications for managing access requests and access review certifications

End users can request for new application access or new roles assignment directly from within the Slack ProBot utility without having to login separately to the Saviynt web application.

Instant alerts will be received directly in slack when any request is submitted for review or approval

A historical record of all pending requests will be displayed on the Slack console for action to be taken on individual line items

 

Approvers can review, approve or reject requests pending in their queue directly within Slack

End users can seamlessly manage their delegate list and assign new delegates

The Integration

  • Utilize Saviynt APIs for seamless communication between Slack and Saviynt Identity Cloud.
  • Implement bot commands and workflows tailored to specific organizational needs, such as fetching user profiles, tracking access histories, or managing access data
  • Configure automated reminders and status updates for better compliance and efficiency.

 

Sequence Flow

  1. ProBot communicates with the Saviynt API bundle to fetch user information, request history and pending approvals.
  2. ProBot then tracks changes to requests and pushes them as notification to users on their slack messaging channel.
  3. Users can issue commands on the messaging interface to view their request history and pending approvals for actions
  4. Interactive view to navigate list, view request details, take action on individual request with an Approve / Reject action or redirect to the Saviynt web app.
  5. Update Requests through API calls with Action and comments

Integrating Slack with Saviynt to manage access requests and approvals involves setting up workflows where Slack acts as the front-end communication tool and Saviynt handles identity governance and request processing in the backend.

A middleware component like AWS lambda, a lightweight application hosted on the AWS cloud platform will be set up to act as a bridge between Slack and Saviynt.

 

Approvals Process

  • Slack’s interactive components (buttons / message menus) will be used to allow approvers to take action on pending requests
  • Messages will be posted to approvers within Slack using Saviynt data.
  • Slack will be updating Saviynt with the approval/rejection status.

 

New Requests

  • Create the Slack bot interaction.
  • User fills out required details via the Slack interface
  • Slack then sends the request data to Saviynt API for processing.

 

Event Notifications

  • Saviynt will be sending events to the middleware component e.g. AWS lambda
  • The middleware component will then push these events to Slack as notifications.
